To reach the upper levels of the rice terraces you will walk up about 400 meters in elevation. The local saying is "1000 steps to the top". I have never tried to count the steps. For those weighing less than 75 kilos, porters will gladly provide the manpower to carry you in this cushioned sedan. For those who don't want to walk up 1000 steps, nor desire the experience of being carried like the emporer or empress of olden times, you will get most of the view with a less strenuous 30 minute stroll up the path.
