Trip narrative

This tour is adults only. It’s been designed to present many facets of Thai life and culture while keeping this a fun and varied two weeks. We hope all our fellow travelers come along with an open mind and willingness to listen to many diverse viewpoints about life in Thailand.

Some activities on this tour are controversial with some ideologies. There are strong views about the elephant camps, the Karen long neck villages, the bar scene and even about Thai Buddhism. We believe our friends and others you will meet and talk with will give you new and different viewpoints about various activities in the daily life of Thailand that you never heard before. There is no other Thailand tour like this one.

Our accommodations will vary from 4 star resort hotels to seaside glamping for a couple nights. You will find each day to be new and different. Onanong, my life partner is native Thai and has had a TAT Thai guide license for around 20 years. I have lived part time in Thailand for 20 years. This special and unique tour would not be possible without our native knowledge and long standing friendships with a wide range of people. Any tour company or travel agent can slap a Thai tour together. With the internet it’s a 30 minute task. This special tour has been 20 years in the planning.

A tour this specialized with trip leaders and local guides both accompanying the group the entire way cannot be put together as a low end bargain vacation tour. It is also not a 5 star luxury tour. But every accommodation has been chosen for a reason other than a massive marble clad reception area. This is a tour intended to immerse you in modern Thailand in a way no other tour can do.

The noted as ‘special’ meet ups with local Thais are based upon each individual promising me and Onanong to do their best to keep the date and time open for us. BUT these are all high level busy individuals whose personal schedules are not always theirs to set and so can change unexpectedly.

Breakfast will generally be eaten in the hotel and provided as part of the trip package unless noted otherwise. The itinerary identifies which meals are included. If not listed B, L, D on that day, then the meals not listed will be eaten either independently or as part of the group, but will be paid by each individual. This is done to simplify meal times and allow guests to go off on their own.

This tour is structured throughout the day from early morning until dinner. There will be times when some group members want to do something other than what we have planned for the group. We always try to assist in those breakaway activities and many times one of us will be able to join the breakaway. Night time activities are left open for you to do as you wish. Again one of us may be able to accompany you for part of an evening out, but this cannot be promised. Except for one planned 2-3 hours night outing.

Note about the last two nights at a glamping resort on the island shore. If this is something you do not want to do, let us know. We can most likely make other arrangements. At this time we have already secured all the hotel accommodations for the tour. This was necessary because we will be traveling during the “high season” in Thailand. Days are cooler. You will most likely see Thai people wearing long sleeve shirts and coats. You may even see some scarfs. In Chiang Mai daytime temperatures likely 80-85F night 65-70F. In the south islands day time around 80-88F and night 70- 75F. This is excellent weather to sleep along the shore for a couple nights in a comfortable canvas accommodation.

You may join our tour for only part of it. Options would be Nov 1 – 8 Bangkok and Chiang Mai or November 7 – 14 Bangkok, south islands and Bangkok. Ask Keith for details.
